Margarita Xistris is the owner of Nautical Details. Being a female and owning a business in the marine industry 30 years ago was very rare. Through perseverance and commitment to being the best in her industry, she soon had a reputation for high quality service with a commitment to timeliness, while customizing individual packages and understanding that every boat and clients’ needs are different. She fell in love with sailing at the age of six and as a little girl; she remembers swimming freely in the Long Island Sound. On her quest and commitment to create safer water ways, she has been researching green products and safer methods for her staff and the environment for cleaning and refinishing. Through this, her company can contribute to this transformation of restoring the Long Island Sound. Margarita’s goal is to be able to build the first green marina with a medical health and wellness facility. Her long term goal is to return the waters to a safer environment so her children and the rest of the community can swim without care in the sound.
At the age of 16 she began working in the marine industry and 31 years later she is still in love with what she does. She has been working on boats that range from 20 feet long to 400 feet long, has managed a team of 12 people and has expanded her services to New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island. In all the years of her service, she has trained over 150 seasonal employees and in order to do this and still maintain quality, she has created training systems that are continuously being revised and improved. The training systems were built in order to train methods of high level care and to simplify maintenance so as the boats age they are easier to care for and still look beautiful. Our training systems have also implemented a term she calls, Consciously Clean. She believes that investing in her employees is one of her greatest assets and she teaches them how to do the right thing, the right way, will build character, strength and performance.
Margarita has worked with different marinas which include, Derecktor Shipyards, Norwalk Cove Marina, Rex Marine Center, MacKenzie Marine, Palmer Point Marina, McMichael Yacht Yard, Morris Yachts, Friendship Yachts and more. Margarita is dedicated to building a culture in which she will provide a conscious eco-friendly marine environment. Nautical Details is an environment in which employees and clients understand that by taking care of the environment, we can make a difference. Nautical Details is a company that is prideful to create a team of people who not only love the water and care for the environment but also a community that treats one another with respect and that appreciates the value of family. Every person on her team has the potential to be great and she works towards delivering that standard through her coaching and leadership.
On the side of being in this industry for over 30 years, she has had training through self-help seminars to improve her quality of life and personal philosophy so she can be a well-rounded leader, business owner, mother, and partner. She has taken courses in Landmark Forum, CEO Space, and Peaks Potential in Business, Finance, and Warrior Training. This has given her the opportunity to transform. These inspirational leadership programs have given her the opportunity to connect with other strong and powerful leaders who believe in cooperation, not competition and the power of building strong relationships for the greater purposes, and the value of giving and serving before you receive.
In her off season she has studied in the healing arts for over 15 years and has accumulated 4 yoga certifications, thai massage, reiki, meditation, cranial sacral therapy, kinesiology, belly dancing, and many other modalities to support a healthy mind, body, and spirit. If you are ever invited to a celebration that Nautical Details hosts, make sure to come because on top of everything else, she went to cooking school and is an excellent chef on and off the sea.
